Common Questions

“We wish we knew about you sooner.” Helping you understand eligibility and care options.

Hospice Care Essentials

What is hospice care?
Hospice care supports patients with serious, life-limiting medical conditions. It focuses on providing comfort for pain or other symptoms. At CECE Hospice, care expands to spiritual counseling, grief counseling, and volunteer support, all delivered directly to the patient’s home.
Who is eligible for hospice services?

Common eligibility indicators include:

  • Life-limiting prognosis (6 months or less)
  • Frequent hospitalizations
  • Progressive weight loss
  • Recurring infections
  • Decline in cognitive/functional abilities
Who pays for hospice care?
Hospice is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care (HMOs), and most private insurances. CECE Hospice coordinators assist you in verifying insurance benefits during the referral process.
Is hospice only for older patients or cancer patients?
No. Hospice is available to patients of any age—including children—suffering from any life-limiting illness, not just cancer. We support anyone coping with an end-stage condition regardless of their diagnosis.

Hospice vs. Palliative Care

Key differences to help you decide on the right path.

Palliative Care

  • Provided during any stage of a serious illness.
  • Focused on symptom management and pain relief.
  • Can be provided alongside curative treatments.

Hospice Care

  • Provided as a loved one progresses through an illness.
  • Includes medical, spiritual, and emotional care.
  • Focuses on the whole family with grief counseling.
